Tried & True Master Methods - color, casein, acrylic, tempera & oil paint - for luminous work!

Hands on workshop designed for the student and advanced artist to understand the secrets of long lasting archival work. Understand why the masters used the colors harmonies and built paintings in layers as they did. Learn about "Dead" layer, low chroma under-painting, grisaille (grey) layering, Flemish "Mixed" method - white tempera in-between oil layers; and more about casein, acrylic, oil painting and their  - respective mediums.

There is shear genius in the way Master Artists built paintings which is lost to todays artists. Most colleges don't teach with any understanding why certain methods, paints, colors and process were utilized by yesterdays Master Artists. Learning the principles will help you life long in creating artwork that is easier to produce, is archival, and makes you a better quality artist in charge of your craft. Students will learn the difference between a variety of color models, what colors go together, learn transparent vs. opaque paints and colors; experience different whites, understand how to bring full color limited color pallets, learn about bonding of water based, acrylic, and oil, understanding why a traditional value system like Munsell is not accurate and to fussy to paint from, and much more!  Class will experience first hand building their under-painting sketch, making a "grissaille" (dead layer), medium oil layer, glazing top layers, and about different mediums and when to use them. Students will make their own white tempera to take home and learn why it was invaluable to the Masters. Appreciate the complexity of making luminous flesh colors and creating depth in your work.
