Alessio Cuomo is a Dutch/Italian filmmaker who directed aftermovies for the Chalk Festival since 2010. In 2013 he directed the documentary Gesso, the Art of Street Painting, about the worldwide movement of pavement art. The documentary follows six street painters around the world, many of these are present at this Chalk Festival.

During his study Journalism in Utrecht, The Netherlands, Alessio Cuomo quickly developed a natural hunger to explore all aspects of the world of filmmaking and documentaries. His work is characterized by a strong social engagement. He made his first short films in Mexico about the rock band Maldita Vecindad, and in Romania about addicted street children.

In 2008 Alessio Cuomo and Sander the Nooij directed the documentary Cuba RebelióN. A film about Cuban protest singers who rebel against the Castro regime. For his film projects Cuomo filmed in countries such as Cuba, USA, Syria, Lebanon, Russia, Argentina, Mexico, Italy and many more. 

Making documentaries is Alessio’s passion. One of the Cuomo's greatest strengths therefore lies in capturing stories with a meaning.
